Mounting Bolt

A mounting bolt, also known as a fixture mounting bolt, is a component used to securely fasten a lighting fixture in place. It serves as a connection point between the fixture and the desired mounting surface, ensuring the stability and proper placement of the fixture.

Purpose of Mounting Bolts

The primary purpose of mounting bolts in lighting fixtures is to provide a reliable and secure attachment to the mounting surface. This ensures that the fixtures remain in the intended position throughout their lifespan, regardless of external factors such as vibrations, wind, or accidental impacts.

Types of Mounting Bolts

1. Hexagonal Bolts: Hexagonal bolts, also known as hex bolts or cap screws, are one of the most commonly used types of mounting bolts. They have a hexagonal-shaped head and a threaded shaft that allows for easy installation, tightening, and removal using a wrench or socket. Hex bolts are available in various sizes and materials to accommodate different lighting fixture designs and mounting requirements.

2. Machine Bolts: Machine bolts, also referred to as stove bolts or through bolts, feature a cylindrical shaft with a flat or rounded head. These bolts are typically used when a flush or countersunk installation is desired, where the head of the bolt should be flush with the mounting surface. Machine bolts can be secured with a wrench or a nut on the opposite side.

3. Shoulder Bolts: Shoulder bolts, also known as stripper bolts or shoulder screws, have a cylindrical shaft with a distinct shoulder between the head and the shaft. The shoulder provides a precise stop, allowing for consistent and controlled positioning of the lighting fixture. These bolts are often used in applications where alignment is critical, such as adjustable or directional lighting fixtures.

4. Toggle Bolts: Toggle bolts, also called butterfly anchors, are suitable for mounting lighting fixtures in hollow or drywall surfaces. They consist of a threaded bolt attached to a pair of spring-loaded butterfly wings. When the bolt is inserted into a pre-drilled hole, the wings unfold on the opposite side of the wall, providing a secure anchor point for the fixture.

Mounting bolts are essential components in lighting fixtures that ensure their proper and secure installation. By understanding the purpose and various types of mounting bolts available in the market, lighting professionals and enthusiasts can select the appropriate bolts for their specific applications. Choosing the right mounting bolts contributes to the longevity, stability, and overall performance of lighting fixtures in both residential and commercial settings.
