Vacancy Sensor

A vacancy sensor, also known as an "unoccupied sensor," is a type of occupancy sensor widely used in lighting systems. Unlike other occupancy sensors that automatically detect presence and control lighting accordingly, vacancy sensors require manual operation to turn the luminaires on or off. These sensors operate on the principle that users manually activate the lighting when entering a room, and the sensor takes charge of automatically turning off the lights when the space is unoccupied after a designated period.


How Vacancy Sensors Work


Vacancy sensors typically integrate various technologies to accurately detect activity within a specific area. Often equipped with passive infrared (PIR) or ultrasonic sensors, vacancy sensors can sense movement and changes in temperature within their range. Once the sensor detects user presence, it prompts the lights to turn on to meet the user's lighting needs.

If the sensor detects no activity for a pre-set period, it automatically switches off the luminaires to conserve energy.
